Set in the beautiful Cotswold countryside of England it is a story of wealth and privilege, friendship, love, betrayal and tragedy. Richard Hillman is a shopkeepers son who wins a scholarship to the most exclusive private school in the county. There he meets Sir Rupert Winstanley the son of a very wealthy businessman. They are inseparable until one goes to Oxford and the other to Cambridge University.
